This morning we checked out the Bonaventure cemetery on Moon River. Many colonial era Savannah big wigs are buried here. It is still being used. 2 funerals occurred the day we were there. And at one point I faintly heard TAPS being played. It is one of the most gorgeous burial grounds I have ever seen.

We had lunch at the Pirates House. The food was ok, but you go for the atmosphere. It is one if the most haunted sites in the most haunted city in the US. The shutters and doors are painted a haint blue, because witches allegedly cant enter that color.

Sight Seeing in Savannah yesterday. It is a beautiful place with a rich history. Thankfully the community values that and there is a lot of preservation from as far back as pre-Revolutionary war.

And a few from the island. It is so beautiful here.

And sunset pics

Then driftwood
Beach

Next up- Beach!

Next up was the reason we came to Jekyll, the turtle hospital. It was SO COOL! I took mostly video there, which I cant upload right now. The majority of their patients are there from boat strikes and disease. They are rehabilitated and released into the wild. Unless they are incapacitated somehow, then they go to aquariums. One of the Georgia Sea Turtles went to the Oklahoma aquarium. We also did a turtle walk later that evening with the Sea Turtle hospital. No photography (light) allowed. We didn't see a nesting mom. But we did see a nest. And some bioluminescent algae. And lots of stars.

Met this guy at lunch. Apparently, Georgia raccoons aren't nocturnal.

Or, I will just request a serious, old timey look. Like you are in a frame. The heat, mosquitos and hunger ended this fun photo shoot and we headed to lunch.

Max, We have ways of making you laugh...

And we came upon the Horton house. The oldest structure on the island. It was built using Tabby. A mixture of mortar/oyster shells and stucco. It pre-dates the revolutionary war.

We took a few family pics too. Went to great lengths to illicit a natural Max smile. Well, maybe not "great" lengths. But lengths.

Technical difficulties. Not all my posts made it to the blog. Tired. Will try later.

Then we took some pics with a pretty live oak. We tried hard to get a natural smile from Max. When that didn't work I tried shooting around him.

Then we found several hermit crabs and had fun with them.

What an epic day! We did a quick drive through historic Savannah this morning, then headed to Jekyll Island for the day. It was awesome. It is such a beautiful island. The state owns it, so the entire island is a state park. We took the beach drive loop and watched a guy reel in a bonnet head shark from the pier.

And we made it to Savannah. Finally. Atlanta traffic is a bitch!

Saw's soul food wasn't meant to be for us today. 😞 A train blocked the road. After waiting a half hour we ditched and went to Arby's. Maybe next time Birmingham. Being hangry wirh a full bladder isn't conducive to waiting.
We have been in 5 states so far today. And we aren't even in Georgia yet.
Headed to try some Alabama bbq in Birmingham.
Hardy Arkansas, what a cute town!
On the road!
